As a Pediatric and Adolescent gynecologist, the education and empowerment of teens are dear to my heart. For this reason, I’d like to introduce #TeenTopics with The Period Doctor. ⁣ These posts will be geared toward teens, but available for everyone. The topics will be marked with the doodle that you see here (on left) and will be created for sharing with any and all adolescent girls that you may know. Read More.

Together We Stand Tall

This is a short clip from my talk with @twst4girls regarding consent. ⁣I want so desperately for teens to feel empowered to say “NO” when they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. ⁣It’s my strong belief that their understanding and use of their “NO”, strengthens their understanding and use of their “YES”.  #ChangeTheCycle

Overcoming adversity in life is necessary, albeit uncomfortable. Adversity stimulates growth which builds character & resilience, key ingredients for success⁣. As black women, we are often undervalued and underrepresented across all spheres putting us at a potential disadvantage from the very beginning.⁣
And although our demographic accounts for some of the highest rates of graduates from college & professional schools, the odds are often stacked against us.⁣ But through faith & perseverance, we continue to overcome.⁣ So proud to be a part of all of these brave women who continue to shatter the glass ceiling!⁣
